During The A.P. Exam, You May Begin To Feel Like That Guy ^
I'm Here To Help
The AP Literature and Composition Exam is not a test you can simply "wing". It is a jungle out there, you have to keep your wits about you and your senses sharp. You don't want to be like Survivor Man-- dropped in with nothing but himself and the clothes on his back, having to record everything all by himself. Be more like Bear Grylls, he at least has a backpack and some friends.
Studying Resources
These are a few websites and resources that have helped me understand the test, outside of the classroom.
This website takes each section of the AP Exam and breaks it down into the most important details. The most helpful to me was the breakdown of the 8 multiple choice question types.

Provides in depth analysis to almost any book you can think of, also provides the most common themes within the book, and evidence for them.

This an essay scoring rubric for each of the number levels, along with example essays of each score.

Essay StrategiesThere are 3 free response questions- each should take about 40 minutes. The first 2 will be analyzing two passages, one will be poetry and the other prose. The third will be a thematic analysis.
|
Multiple Choice StrategiesIn the multiple choice section, you will read 4-5 excerpts of prose and poetry; with date ranges from 16th to 21st century. You will usually see 8 types of questions:

Literature Chart
Creating a literature has been very helpful in memorizing themes and characters in AP Literature that I could use for the 3rd Free Response Essay. I struggle with memorizing Authors, Characters, and Themes, so this chart has been very useful. This is my personal chart, but you can create your own from your own books, or a recommended list of AP Books.
Fun Tips!
If you don't know how to spell a word, write it in cursive
Don't draw a hand turkey, at least try!
Add some Style
Chew mint gum while you're studying, then the same flavor of gum during the test, to help you remember what you studied
Wear a Snuggie to the test
Don't cry on your test
